Intentional Family Engagement to Improve Employment Outcomes with Sean Roy
Successful employment programs for youth and adults with mental health conditions, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, and other significant disabilities help families envision futures that include employment. This session will provide practical information, strategies, and tools for disability service providers, disability organizations, and state agencies to engage families in the employment journey.
Themes will include understanding the perspective of families, respectfully navigating questions and concerns that families have about supporting their family member with a disability in exploring, obtaining, and maintaining employment, sharing supportive and informative messages about employment, and leveraging the expertise and influence of families to enhance the job search process. In addition, parents of two employed adults with disabilities will share their perspectives as family members and offer advice to employment program staff.
